Secrets to Successful Teeth Whitening

Successful Professional Teeth Whitening involves striking a balance between ‘Time take to achieve Results’ and ‘Customer Comfort and Safety’.

Asked if they would prefer to take a little longer to achieve whitening results, if extra time meant they would not have to endure swollen and irritated lips or gums, or even severe tooth sensitivity, Customers  answered they would prefer their practitioner to take extra time and care over their procedure.

This is also good business practice! A Customer who has a bad experience is unlikely to undergo a similar procedure again!

Yet, a customer who undergoes teeth whitening who does not see measurable results IMMEDIATELY is just as unlikely to be a happy, satisfied customer, and is unlikely to repeat the experience.

The solution to this problem lies in setting proper and realistic expectations with regard to a teeth whitening procedure that operates well within the boundaries of safety.

Our first recommendation is that you request the use of Carbamide Peroxide gel. Now it is true that some will claim that faster results will be obtained by using Hydrogen Peroxide gels, and that may well be true, but it also carries with it more risk of burning to the lips and gums. Even when the gel is applied using mouth trays, inevitably some of the gel will be squeezed out over the tray top and contact the gums and/or the inside of the mouth and lips.

This WILL hurt. Guaranteed. Hydrogen Peroxide is used by commercial carpet cleaners for removing stains from carpets. The Hydrogen Peroxide solution they use is at a 12% concentration – the same as that used legally in your home by mobile Teeth Whitening practitioners – yet if you took some of that Hydrogen Peroxide solution and placed it on your skin, it WILL burn! Those commercial cleaners who carry 12% hydrogen peroxide with them also need a poisons handling certificate, and by law carry a chemical specifications document with them outlining the treatment required if the chemicals are mishandled.

That’s not to say that Hydrogen Peroxide CANT be used safely. Just that it does present a greater risk to client comfort, all for the sake of saving a few minutes of time.

So, ask for Carbamide Peroxide whitening gels. With MOST people, Carbamide Peroxide can contact their lips and gums for quite significant periods of time – many minutes in fact – without causing discomfort.

Secondly, you should be realistic about the results that can be achieved.

It is not uncommon for a 40 minute session utilizing Carbamide Peroxide gel to lighten teeth 4 shades or even more. Sometimes as much as 6 – 8 shades. What this means is that if your teeth are heavily stained, or at the high end of moderate staining, you might not get your teeth to the shade of whiteness that nature intended in just one session. You will definitely see results, and you will  LOVE the whiter, brighter smile, but it will likely NOT be the maximum result possible for your teeth.

So if your teeth ARE moderately or heavily stained, be prepared to book TWO whitening sessions of 40 minutes to 1 hour to get teeth looking their best.

Resist the temptation to ask for sessions longer than 1 hour. This is possible to safely arrange using Carbamide Peroxide (but it is questionable that this would be advisable using Hydrogen Peroxide), our experience shows that better results come from two 60 minute sessions, at least 2 weeks apart, and not more than 3 months apart. Many teeth whitening practitioners offer a discount to customers wanting to take this safer approach to teeth whitening.

Where can I find the BEST teeth whitening service in Auckland

When I was searching for a mobile teeth whitening practitioner in Auckland, I typed the search term ” Best Teeth Whitening ” into an online search engine, and the first entry that appeared was CelebritySmile.

I wanted my teeth whitened for an upcoming wedding, so I booked online for a whitening session about a month out, which was all pretty easy to do on the website.

I was impressed to recieve a phone call from the manager about a week out from my appointment just to confirm my details and to explain a little over the phone about the upcoming procedure, which was pretty useful to me as I had never had teeth whitening done before.

The whole experience was fast, painless, and really very inexpensive when compared to the quotes I received from my dentist. I have to say that CelebritySmile is the Best Teeth Whitening service in Auckland for my money!

Changes to NZ Law concerning Teeth Whitening

The law concerning teeth whitening products and practitioners will soon change.
In short, no product will be able to be sold to members of the public containing more than 6% Hydrogen Peroxide (or equivalent), and the new regulations stipulate the labelling and warnings that must be included. Dentists may supply product with higher concentrations of Hydrogen Peroxide.

Teeth Whitening products containing greater than 12% Hydrogen Peroxide (or equivalent) will only be able to be applied by a Dentist.

Non-Registered Teeth Whitening Practitioners will be able to apply Teeth Whitening products containing from 7 – 12 % Hydrogen Peroxide (or equivalent) without supervision by a Dentist.

Q. What does this mean for the Cosmetic Teeth Whitening Industry?

A. Not a whole lot really. Most Teeth Whitening Practitioners are already using products within the specified range of Hydrogen Peroxide content (although some are STILL using products containing 16% Hydrogen Peroxide content). The reason is that client comfort is a priority, and using high concentrations of Hydrogen Peroxide can cause increased tooth sensitivity – both during and after the procedure – and can cause burning and swelling to lips and gums. For some people, using whitening gels with a high strength of Hydrogen Peroxide can lead to excruciating pain during the procedure, since the Hydrogen Peroxide penetrates deep into the tooth (this is necessary in order for the bleaching process to work), and can affect the nerve causing pain.

One Mobile Teeth Whitening Practice which adopted these new safety standards even before they became law, and can be trusted, is Celebrity Smile, currently operating throughout the greater Auckland region.
